Keeping everyone safe online from growing threats and distractions Network for Learning’s (N4L) latest report shows schools face ever increasing threats to online safety and security. It outlines where students are spending their time online, what type of data is being consumed and where, and what type of online threats are being blocked.

Repair, re-use, refurbish, recycle … or in the rubbish? How sustainable are your STEM resources? What happens when they break or need replacing? Individually, they may be small and relatively inexpensive. But put them together and the process of buying, maintaining and disposal becomes far more of a challenge.

Students compete to create a sustainable world Last term, Fruitvale School in West Auckland hosted its annual digital technology competition. The challenge for students was to design and construct solutions for creating a modern and sustainable world using any form of technology.

Using creativity and technology to bring local history alive ‘Stories from the Valley’ recalls the history of Oratia District School and its surrounding community. Funded through the Creatives in Schools scheme, the 45-minute animated documentary was made by Year 5 and 6 students, who collected reminiscences from local celebrities.

Third STEM activity added to The Wonder Project The Power Challenge is a new, free in-school STEM programme. Part of The Wonder Project, its aims to help students learn how different energy sources can be used to create electricity and deliver power to New Zealand’s homes and communities.
