Google Logo 2010In a bid to foster a new generation of computer whizz-kids, teachers from across Manchester will be trained in the art of coding now that the National Curriculum requires lessons in it.

Google is supporting Code Club Pro, a non-profit organisation providing training and resources aimed at teachers of the new computing curriculum.

The Manchester-wide initiative, supported by the city’s council, will cover 67 schools, 1,000 teachers and 15,000 pupils.

Manchester is a fitting home for the project, since it was there that the Manchester Baby – the world’s first computer – was invented in 1948.

The funding will also provide training to 60 computer science industry experts – volunteers who will be supported by Code Club Pro to train more teachers in the Greater Manchester.
