eTV is launching a new Set Top Box that will enable teachers and students to take eTV directly to large TV screens at school and at home. It’s a smart new way for them to view the huge range of content – and could even make you money.
Many people don’t realise that eTV streams more than 30 Freeview and international TV channels live. It’s the country’s biggest on-demand service with 50,000-plus videos, and about 50 are added daily. While it’s used in the classroom, most use happens at home –but not everyone wants to watch TV on a small screen. The people at eTV have long wanted to make the service easier to use, at school or at home, and now they have.
Meet the new ‘Set Top Box’, offering a TV experience like nothing else available in New Zealand. It’s 100 per cent online; all you will need is broadband. It connects via wireless, so it can be located in any room. Navigation is through an easy-to-use remote control, and searching is even easier with an optional wireless keyboard and mouse. You can pause and rewind any channel up to three hours. Plug in a hard-drive or SDI card and it lets you record (assuming you need to because eTV is recording everything anyway). Plus, it has a built-in browser, so you can navigate the web on your TV. Every TV becomes a smart TV!
A fundraising opportunity
If your school subscribes to eTV it will have a Screenrights Licence, so all your staff and students can legally access the on-demand video content eTV records every day. If your school does not subscribe to eTV on-demand, all the live channels can still be watched on the Set Top Box.
To see how good a Set Top Box really is, each participating school will be given one for free. And there’s more. As a Charitable Trust, eTV is also able to offer a fundraising opportunity to subscribing schools – giving a cut from sales to your school community.
The Set Top Box is great value at $199 and is expected to be popular. You can take advantage of this. eTV will provide a direct $60 ‘cashback’ to schools for each one sold to staff and students/parents.
